Les Ellery spent more than 65 years in manufacturing working his way up from apprentice to machinist and then into management roles with major machine shops located in India, England and Canada. He moved his family from England to Canada in 1970 where he spent several years working in machinist and supervisory roles before deciding to venture out on his own.

Ellery Machining (later changed to Manufacturing) was founded by Les Ellery in 1978 in Surrey, British Columbia.

Les was used to working in large production environments but his new company was located in a small rented corner of a warehouse. The company had modest resources at the start including just one saw, one drill press and a lathe. Les would one day purchase the building he was renting in and
move twice more in order to acquire more production and office space before eventually moving into its current 20,000 square foot production facility located in the Port Kells industrial area of Surrey, British Columbia.

Initially, the company was a producer of downhole tooling & smaller custom parts but over time Les expanded into the pulp & paper industry before eventually moving into the production of parts for Oil & Gas. Today the company continues to produce work for Oil & Gas in addition to several other industries that include Renewable Energy, Mining, Forestry, Construction, Marine & Government.

The company may have started small but over time Ellery has grown and evolved into a well equipped, modern production facility. Ellery Manufacturing now runs a number of CNC and manual machines with plans to add more. In recent years there have been several modernization projects completed including the upgrading of network hardware and data security tools, the implementation of new ERP and upgraded CAD software along with the introduction of automated tool vending systems and tool setters. The company also updated its Safety program and Quality Management System.

Les Ellery passed away in 2018, the company's 40th anniversary, but his legacy lives on through his family (the business is still 100% family owned & managed), through his company's strong reputation within the industrial community and through the quality of the work Ellery Manufacturing continues to produce.
